James Michael Moriarity

| James Michael Moriarity entered
this world a healthy 10 pound 8 ounces on June 15 1979. He was born
in Augusta, Georgia where his father was stationed as a Special Forces
soldier. He was given the nickname Jay when he was a baby by his pop
and grandpa. He spent plenty of time moving from base to base as a
military brat until the strain on the family was eventually too much.
His parents decided to get divorced. His mother moved him and his
sister to Santa Cruz where she soon remarried to Stan Blackburn. Being
a long time Pleasure Point resident Stan had a full selection of boards.
It is at this time in his life when Jay found meaning and purpose.
Jay and his sister’s boyfriend began to borrow a couple of those
boards from the garage and made the decision to become surfers. He
was only nine years young at the time and would switch between bodyboarding
and longboarding for a long time. He braved the cold Santa Cruz water
without a wetsuit. Click
